The Poetic Language of Landscape

Artists from Chilliwack and White Rock, Patricia Peters, Cathy Stewart, and Beverley Biddulph traveled to the Nicola Valley to set up their May show, Poetic Language of Landscape.

The exhibition hanging started bright and early at the Arts Gallery, with our Libby Dybikowski and Fran McMurchy bringing their expertise. Over 40 works were on the wall in time for Patricia and Beverley to  lounge and lunch on the Courthouse lawn.

Cathy and her husband Willy headed off to Brambles for, what we heard, was delicious fare.

Shown here, Patricia and Beverley chat with Patricia's friends from Blind Bay in the Shuswap who arrived early to take a pre show peek at The Poetic Language of Landscape.

Lively conversation and support!

The Hanging...

And then the artists and Arts Council members freshened up in time for the Opening Reception at 4pm...

The Reception...

At the Opening Reception the art shone bright!

Beautiful, colourful, and charged with emotions...

Each of the artists, Patricia, Beverley, and Cathy spoke about their art after a welcome from Councillors Ginny Prowal and Kurt Christopherson.

Guests, visitors, and members of the Arts Council were present.

And also family and guests from Quesnel, Chilliwack, and the Shuswap came to celebrate the opening with the artists.

As new Arts Council Director, Jano Howarth, and coordinator of events extraordinaire, Mischelle Pierce, were happy to let the art take center stage...

Linda Suzuki (of SD58 Arts Festival fame), Ellen Nast, Daphne Randall, artists Leonard George and Cassandra Dolen, among other guests, chatted their way through the evening.

After the show, full of arts discussion, sign ups for Patricia's upcoming workshop (June 3rd), and delicious food brought in by Mischelle, Catherine Oborne and other Arts Council Members, the guests and visitors left the Arts Gallery empty. Except for the beautiful works of art.

Ready for a month of enjoyment by the Nicola Arts Valley community.

Is it true that after saying goodbye to Cathy Stewart and her husband (on their way to the Okanagan) Jean Kiegerl escorted Patricia, Beverley, and Bev's son Aaron out to the beautiful Quilchena Hotel for dinner?

We'll have to hear the latest.

We do know that all three of our visiting artists plan to spend a day or two exploring more of the Nicola Valley when they return to take down their art, June 3rd.

We will be happy to welcome them back...and in the meantime we'll look after their glorious work while it is here.

Be sure to come by!

Some of this work may end up in our community, gracing the walls of our local residents!

Perhaps yours!
